The Meridian Norstar 824 was the predecessor to the Modular 032 system. As its name suggests it was, out of the box, capable of 8 analogue lines and 24 extensions. The extensions could be Meridian terminals or, with analogue adapters, any standard 2wire device. Theoretically, the maximum size would be 80 analogue lines or 120 extensions. Its distinguishing feature, to set it apart from other Meridians, is the fact that the wall mounted unit appears to be a two door cabinet yet has only one door on the right hand side. Taking the switch above 824 means fitting an expansion card in the ccu allowing for either 2 or 6 extension/trunk expander modules to be fitted. |
Taking over from pre-existing BT installs, such as the Viceroy, it sometimes retained the earth calling lines. These can be converted to loop without any problems. The major problem with many 824s is the fact that, because of age, their RAM batteries have failed. This means that a power cut can 'wipe' the memory clean. All 824s should have a detailed record made of their programming to prepare for this. These early Meridians have no LCR/ARS ability.
