A look at Noise:

In a call centre of, say, 100 Agents, the 'platform noise' level or base noise level consists of the sound produced by voices dealing with calls. This variable level is influenced by call density and voice loudness, which is pitched at some 8dB above the platform level of between 75 - 85dB. It is an “infectious” re-active environment: eg a percentage of loud voices will cause others to raise their voices: the 'party' effect

To combat this the Agents should in lower their voice level to cut out the 'loudness competition', which is arising when they pitch their voices 8dB above the sound platform to gain sufficient side tone feed back in their own receiver, to achieve a confidence level in the transmission of their voices.

There are two ways to help. Firstly, use the Voice Enhancing Microphone correctly to effectively eliminate the platform or base noise level. This means the Agent’s voice can be lowered and still achieve an acceptable transmit level and side tone level on the Agents receiver. If the microphone is out of position it becomes a voice cancelling device as well as an ambient noise cancelling device.

  • A Noise Cancelling / Voice Enhancing Microphone is termed a 'Differential Pressure' Microphone, meaning that voice is transmitted through a difference in pressure imposed on one side of the microphone whereas, surrounding general conversational sound levels impact both sides, and thus this effect is equalised out. None or minimal, surrounding noise is transmitted; just the voice is heard by the Caller which means a clear understanding with no repeats.

  • Correct positioning relative to the mouth / voice source is very important - around 25 - 40mm is best with the white dot facing the mouth.

  • The alternative is termed a 'Pressure Microphone'. This type does not discriminate at all, as the Agent speaks the microphone transmission path is entirely open to all other sounds around the Agent.

TIPS FOR USING YOUR HEADSET

Position the ear cushion over the centre of the ear and adjust the T-bar to suit.

Position your Microphone at least 25mm from your lips, but not more than 40mm.

The white dot must face you to transmit your voice clearly to the caller.

Receiver volume controls on Call Centre Turrets and Telephones should be set to the low position then adjusted to suit your personal need.

Attach the clip to your clothing around chest level, leaving enough slack cable to allow you to move freely. To reposition, compress the end button and slide it along the cord.

For personal mobility pull the connector directly apart - the TC1 Quick Release will give best performance used this way - avoid 'biscuit snapping'.

If you wish to clean your headset, please use a medicated wipe or a lint-free damp cloth.
